Martha Jane Potter entered Army Air Force flight training as a member of the second class of WASP--reporting to Houston Municipal Airport in Houston, Texas.

She was one of 112 WASP trainees to graduate at Avenger Field, Sweetwater, Texas on August 7, 1943, as a member of 43-W-4.

AFter graduation, her WASP assignment: Newcastle AAB, Wilmington, Deleware. Marty became part of the FERRY DIVISION, flying PTs and ATs from factories to points of embarkation--where the planes would be 'mothballed' and lifted onto ships bound for combat zones.

 

Martha Jane Potter "Marty" Phillips of Del Ray Beach, Florida died peacefully in the arms of her family at "Pine Ledge" on July 16th, 2004.

She is survived by her daughter Jane Rust Munson
Harrison, her son-in-law, J.B. Harrison, and her granddaughters Timothy Laurel Harrison and Chauncey Rachael Sherwood Harrison.

A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, Marty served our country in the Women's Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) in WWII, ran the Manhattan
office of Steuben glass, and chaired the Community Service Society.


A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, July 24th, at"Pine Ledge", 37 Herrick Rd, S.W. Harbor, ME. An additional service will be held in Delray Beach at a later date. In lieu of flowers,
please send donations to the charity of your choice in Marty's name."
